Uncertainty is why God is always under such pressure. There is no proof that any God exists and yet that vague confidence remains and plods along millennium after millennium like some celestial mule. Deities are stand-ins’ for those make-believe friends we had as children, the ones that made being lonesome easier when friends weren’t around or when we needed help with our consciences after doing something hurtful. God is the awkward pimply kid you loved but your friends couldn’t stand. The best thing about Gods is that they just disappear to save you being embarrassed and never make you feel bad for forsaking them.
